Normally when upgrading any of my plugins you should
- Ensure you have a backup of your site and data
- check the readme to see if there are any important notes
- Run the integrity check plugin to verify the files are all uploaded OK
- Run the upgrade from the plugin manager
- Run the database validity check
- Fix any errors
